Scientific research figurines were first made by a British explorer, Katherine Routledge in 1916. The study describes the remarkable civilization Moai people who live within the South Pacific island 2,300 miles from Chile.
More recently, research was carried out again. The results also lead to important discoveries that have been made in 95 years ago it was.
Of repeated research it is known, the first, there were 1,042 of the figures carved on the statues. Not 887 as had been believed.
"In our study, has discovered 90 statues have been found and we know more," said archaeologist from the United States, Jo Anne Van Tilburg also as head of the research project, as reported expres.co.uk page.
Initially, the statues were expected to be made at random, but now researchers say monolith showing a class-conscious society.
"There seems to be a correlation between the size of the statue and the social position of those who carved it," says Dr. Van Tilburg.
One sculpture, as a whole, has a height of 69 feet with a weight of 270 tons. While that extends deep into the soil of some of the statues has a depth of about 50 feet.
The statues were built by the Polynesian inhabitants between 1250 and 1500. The development is intended to describe the face of life Moai ancestors who have died.
