Function A Mountain

By extension that pierced deep into the well to the surface of the earth, the mountains hold the plates of the earth's crust is different, like a peg. The crust consists of plates are constantly in motion. The function of this mountain pegs prevent shocks in a way that transfix the earth's crust has a structure very easy to move.

Al Qur'an draws our attention to an important geological function of mountains.

"And We made the earth firm mountains so that the earth was (not) shake with them ..." (Qur'an, 21:31)

As can be seen, it is stated in the verse that mountains prevents shocks at the Earth's surface. This fact was not known by anyone at the time when the Qur'an was revealed. In fact, it has just been revealed as a result of the invention of modern geology.

According to the invention, the mountains appear as a result of movements and collisions of massive plates that make up Earth's crust. When two plates collide, the stronger plates slip under the other plate, while above the fold and form the highlands and mountains. The bottom layer is moving under the surface and form a deep extension downward. This means that part of the mountain has pierced deep down no less magnitude to those seen on the surface of the earth.

In the scientific literature, the structure of mountains is described as follows: At the continents are thicker, as in mountain ranges, the crust would sink deeper into the magma layer. (General Science, Carolyn Sheets, Robert Gardner, Samuel F. Howe; Allyn and Bacon Inc.. Newton, Massachusetts, 1985, s. 305).

In one verse, the role of the mountain as it is expressed through a metaphor as "pegs": "Have We not made the earth as an expanse and the mountains as pegs?" (Qur'an, 78:6-7).

In other words, the mountains hold plates of the earth's crust extends up and down the earth's surface at the points meeting these plates. In this way, they planted the crust and prevent it from bobbing above the magma layer or between slab-dial. In short, we can equate the mountain with spikes that make the sheets of wood fixed together.

Erection of a mountain function described in the scientific literature by the term "isostacy". Isostacy meaningful as follows: isostacy: equilibrium in the earth's crust is maintained by the flow of rock material beneath the surface due to the pressure of gravity. (Webster's New Twentieth Century Dictionary, 2. Edition "isostasy", New York, s. 975).

The important role that the mountain was discovered by modern geology and seismic research, was revealed in the Qur'an centuries ago as a proof of Exalted Wisdom in God's creation.
