Young Stars Iras 20 times greater than the Sun

VIVAnews - A space telescope managed to photograph a bunch of stars in other galaxies. One is a young star who is believed to be a 20 times larger than the sun.

So said scientists in collaboration with researchers from the United States Space Agency (NASA). NASA researchers, Stefan Kraus and astronomers from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, said that the discovery in order to examine how massive stars born in another universe.

As quoted in NASA's official website, Wednesday, July 14, 2010, Kraus said that the Space Telescope, NASA's Spitzer, managed to record the image of a star called IRAS 13481-6124. Image of Telescope Spitzer was also supported by the observation of the station telescope in Chile.

The star is located in the constellation Centaurus, located 10,000 light-years. IRAS mass 20 times greater than the sun. "This is the first time such an object can be monitored," said Kraus.

Through Spitzer imaging, the researchers also saw that the star is surrounded by a collection of gas and dust that resemble discs. Such a phenomenon also occurs in other stars. "The disc is very similar to what we have seen in young stars, which is a smaller, but still large," said Kraus.

According to him, the image of Spitzer this time produces a clearer image than was ever shown thus helping scientists to better understand the birth of stars in the universe other.
